December 10, 2024

HAUPPAUGE, NEW YORK, November 2024 –Island Federal Credit Union (Island Federal) delivered more than 900 pounds of food as well as $1,000 in cash donations to Long Island Care, Inc. – the Harry Chapin Regional Food Bank as part of the annual Island Federal Food Drive.

According to Long Island Cares, 221,000 Long Islanders are food insecure. Of those, 29% are children under 18 years old. Besides programs for families and children, Long Island Cares provides dedicated outreach to seniors, the homeless, veterans and others. The impact of increased food prices at the supermarket has made more Long Islanders find themselves turning to food pantries.

“We are proud to say that this year marks the 16th consecutive year that Island Federal held food drives in support of Long Island Cares and their initiatives to address the problem of hunger in our region,” said Chris Murray, VP/Marketing, Island Federal who continued, “Once again, we reached out to our Members, employees and the community to donate non-perishable food or cash donations at our Long Island branches to assist the regional food bank in helping those in need this holiday season.”

“Island Federal has been a significant corporate partner in our efforts to reduce food insecurity and poverty throughout the Long island Region,” said Paule Pachter, President and CEO of Long Island Cares. “Having the ability to partner with Island Federal has been a great experience and benefit to the people Long Island Cares serves. We are so very grateful to the Island Members and team that have joined us in our mission to provide emergency food and supplies when and where it is needed,” he continued.
